Thank you so much in your interest in working with me. I feel it is very important to read and review each query letter I receive. Sometimes I have to make really tough decisions and say no to wonderful sounding projects, so please remember as you are going through this process that it is so subjective. And a 'no' doesn't mean you or your work isn't good enough. And a 'no' doesn't mean you can't query me again--please do. This process can be very frustrating, I've been there myself, but I have found some of my favorite projects/authors right here in my query box.

Also please note, I do try to answer all queries within 3 months, but it is taking me longer to get through queries these days, but I do respond to all queries even if it takes me a moment. I know this can be frustrating to wait, and I appreciate your patience. The Publishing train has slowed down considerably, so it affects ever car behind it. If it's been over 3 months since you queried you can check in, otherwise know it is still under consideration.

To help me consider your work please supply me with the following:

Please include the query, a 1-2 page synopsis, and below there is a place for you to upload your sample pages of either 3 chapters or the first 30 pages whichever is more.

*Note - A query and synopsis are not the same thing.
A query tells: Who is the MC? What do they want? (Goals) What stands in their way? (Obstacles) What happens if they fail? (Stakes)
A synopsis tells: the complete story though its major plot points and also tells the ends. Yes, spoilers are expected!

Your query letter should NOT be longer than your synopsis. If it is, you might want to look into that.

*Please make sure you format your submission pages correctly, which means double space, Times New Roman (or similar font) 12pt, 1 inch margins

*If you have submitted this to me in the past but have made substantial changes, please just let me know. It's not a big deal, and I just want to hear about what changes you've made please.

*Some things I'm NOT looking for in my inbox:
Picture Books
Poetry (with the exception of novels in verse)
Novellas
Stories that start with a character waking up (If this is how your book starts, I implore you to consider if there are any other more compelling dropping in points before you hit send)
Stories with graphic rape
Misogynistic stories (If the MC is a misogynist even if they "redeem" themselves later I don't want it)
Stories that hinge on a woman's abuse to propel the story for the male MC is something I'm not interested in
Stories that depict animal cruelty - If the dog dies, I'm out
Books set in the 80s-90s - unless there's a darn good reason, meaning some kind of historical event (yes, I said historical) has to anchor it there. If you can pick up the plot and move it to present day without anything changing maybe that's where it should be? (Hint: not wanting to deal with technology isn't a good reason)

Thank you so much for trusting me with your words. I look forward to reviewing them.

As noted above, I do respond to ALL queries submitted to me through this site. Yes, sometimes it takes me a minute, but I will respond to all. Feel free to nudge if it's been over 3 months.
(Publishing in general is just moving slower these days and so that means we agents move a little slower as well. Plus, my current list of clients is keeping me very busy. The best "problem" to have. It's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid.)

Also, you may have noticed I'm not accepting MG submissions at this time. This won't be forever, I promise. If you've already talked to me about your MG project and I'm waiting on it, let me know and I will give you another way to submit.
