CHP opened for submissions on Oct 1, 2023 but capped them at 200. They reached the cap in 3 minutes. I began refreshing their submissions page over and over a few minutes before the opening time (10am EST). As soon as the portal activated, I began the submission process. I had everything prepared and ready to go, just needed to copy/paste and attach the document. I hit submit and got through. The submissions were tallied by counter, not by manuscript title. I was number 88, and the submission time on Submittable was 10:02am. That was a little over a year ago and still waiting for their decision.

I have submitted to CHP two other times. In both cases, they capped submissions at 300 and reached the cap in a few hours.

Dear [My Name]:

Thank you for sending us 0088. We look forward to reading it and will send you our response as soon as we can.

Please note: While we will do our best to respond to your submission as quickly as possible, the review process for full-length manuscripts can take as long as 4–6 months, or longer in some instances. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

In the meantime, you can keep up with Coffee House Press on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You can also subscribe to our monthly email newsletter. As a thank-you for your willingness to share your work with us, we've created the coupon code [xxxxx] for 20 percent off your next purchase on our website, plus free shipping. (Purchases, of course, will not affect the standing of your submission.) Happy reading!

Sincerely,

Coffee House Press

Their submissions were supposed to open at 9 am this morning, but when I went to the website, it says submissions are closed. Did they already reach their cap of 200 submissions or are they having technical issues? It would be nice if they would have a counter of some sort so you can see how many have been submitted already. Or at least say, "We have reached our cap for today's submission period. Better luck next time." I bet there are all sorts of writers out here just refreshing away hoping there's still a chance they might be able to get in.

CHP usually opens for submissions on the morning of March 1st, then they close when they reach their cap of 300. This cap is reached within a matter of hours. In 2021, they did not open on March 1st, so no open submissions since March 2020. Subscribe to their newsletter to get submission updates.
