@BBLorik Anything above 100k is a hard sell for a new author, even in sci-fi and fantasy unfortunately. Between 100-120k still has its chances in these genres, but above that it's almost mission impossible. If you manage to cut it down a lot, you could perhaps resubmit, but it's best to check with the agent first and/or to mention in your new query that you already queried them but did substantial revisions that include a big cut on length.

"word count is too high". The mystery subgenre certainly makes it a little longer than the industry standard, but this is the second rejection I've gotten with this feedback. I'm contemplating revising again to see if I can bring this down. I wonder if she'll let me resubmit if I do.
